ABOUT JUDGE ELIZABETH GOBEIL

Judge Elizabeth Gobeil was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to the Court of Appeals of Georgia on June 5, 2018 and was elected statewide in 2020. A native of Thomaston, Georgia, Judge Gobeil now resides in Savannah, Georgia with her husband, Bart.

Judge Gobeil is a graduate of Emory University and the University of Georgia School of Law. Before joining the bench, the majority of her career focused on general civil and life sciences law -- as a partner at Thompson Hine, LLP and as in house counsel for two global pharmaceutical companies. She also was Director and Appellate Division Judge for the State Board of Workers’ Compensation, a positi on Governor Deal appointed her to serve in November of 2012. Earlier in her career, she worked in Washington, DC for the late U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell.

Among her professional engagements, Judge Gobeil serves on the Executive Committee of the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism, the Judicial Council of Georgia’s Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence and the Courts (and as co-chair of its Subcommittee on Access to Justice and Community Education), and the Board of Trustees of the Institute of the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education.
